Detailed analysis of the friction principle during belt transmission

Today we will tell how our belts generate friction during work. If you have any requirements about this, you can contact our customer service.

Analysis on the principle of friction in belt transmission process

In the belt drive, if the friction between the belt and the pulley is small, the belt will slip on the pulley and cannot drive the machine to operate normally. In this case, you can tighten the belt and increase the pressure of the belt on the pulley. Friction between large belt and pulley. Let's discuss two belt transmission methods below, starting with analyzing friction to see which transmission method is better.

(1) Transmission method. The automatic pulley rolls counterclockwise, because the belt is required not to slip during the transmission process. The friction between the belt and the pulley is static friction. The direction of the static friction is opposite to the movement trend of the belt relative to the pulley. The "relative motion trend direction" at this time is the direction of motion of the belt relative to the pulley when there is no friction between the belt and the pulley. It is now known that the automatic wheel rolls counterclockwise, so the relative movement direction of the belt relative to the pulley is clockwise. From this, it can be determined that the direction of the static friction force exerted by the automatic wheel on the belt is counterclockwise. Under the effect of static friction, the belt rolls counterclockwise. For the driven wheel on the right, the static friction direction on the belt is clockwise. Under the static friction of the two pulleys, the belt above the pulley is tightened and the belt below the pulley is loose. Therefore, the wrapping angle of the belt around each pulley is less than π.

(2) Transmission method. It is different from the first transmission method in that the automatic wheel and the driven wheel have exchanged directions, and the rolling direction of the automatic wheel is still counterclockwise. Based on the same principle, it can be known that the friction force of the automatic wheel effect on the belt is counterclockwise, and the friction force of the driven wheel effect on the belt is clockwise. The characteristics of this transmission method are: the belt above the wheel is loose, and the belt below the wheel is tightened. Therefore, the wrapping angle of the belt around the pulley is greater than π.

During the belt transmission process, the larger the wrapping angle, the greater the friction between the belt and the pulley. This can ensure that the belt does not slip during the transmission process, improve the belt transmission efficiency, and reduce energy loss. According to analysis, it can be seen that the second transmission method is better than the first transmission method.
